WHAT IS CHIROPRACTIC
Find out more about how chiropractic can help you.
What is chiropractic?
Chiropractors are trained to deliver treatment and diagnosis of neuro-musculoskeletal disorders (bones, joints, and muscles), as well as the effects these disorders can have on the nervous system and our general health. Chiropractors have a specialist interest in neck and back pain, however when they fully assess patients, they take a holistic approach and consider the individuals entire physical, emotional and social well being into account.
Chiropractors use a variety of techniques to reduce pain, improve function and increase mobility, including hands-on adjustments to the spine. Treatment involves gentle, safe and specific adjustments which free joints within the body that are not moving properly. The chiropractor will narrow down the precise points in your body where mechanical stress is taking place and use adjustment techniques to release it. However, your chiropractor will only adjust your body in areas where the body is unable to correct itself.
Apart from spinal adjustments, chiropractors may use a variety of techniques including ice, heat, trigger point therapy, and exercise, as well as advice about posture and lifestyle.
Benefits of visiting a chiropractor:
As well as manual treatment chiropractors are able to offer a package of care which includes advice on self-help, therapeutic exercises and lifestyle changes. Although chiropractors are best known for treating back and neck pain, which they see great results in, patients also consult chiropractors regarding a range of other, related physical conditions. Where appropriate they may also refer you to our massage services to complement your chiropractic treatment.
