Joint & Muscular Pains

Joint pains, such as shoulder pain & elbow pain, hip pain, knee pain and ankle & foot pain (when it is associated with back, neck or spinal problems) are common reasons for patients attending our clinics. These pains might be due to:

  • sports injury
  • overuse or degeneration of the joints.
  • repetitive use of joints (using a desk mouse), bending, lifting
  • automobile injury
  • a fall/direct trauma
  • postural changes
  • plantar fasciitis

Effective treatment, however, begins with diagnosing what is causing your joint pain.

Other conditions we have success on treating are:

  • Rotator Cuff Strain
  • Frozen Shoulder
  • Shoulder Impingement
  • AC Sprain
  • ACL/PCL/MCL&LCL Sprain/Tears
  • Osgood Schlatters
  • Piriformis Syndrome
  • Bursitis
  • Groin Strains
  • Snapping Hip Syndrome
  • Slipped Capital Femoral Epiphysys (SCFE)

Dr Baillie will ask you questions about your pain, medical history, posture and lifestyle and carry out a full and thorough examination to discover the cause of your joint pain.

She will manually examine the muscles, tendons and ligaments in the joint as well as testing for any cartilage damage or degeneration. Problems in any of these tissues can cause or contribute to joint pains.

If we believe we may be able to help, treatment will begin; often with gentle, specific adjustments (the chiropractic word for manipulation) done by hand to free stiff joints and soft tissue massage. The Chiropractor may also use mobilisation or stretching techniques and give you specific exercises to help strengthen weak muscles and stretch tight muscles to improve flexibility. Advice may also be given to prevent recurrence.
